I left my cognitive issues in this video on purpose because THIS is what living with chronic migraine can actually look like. 🧠💔 I’ve had chronic migraine my entire life. For years, doctors told me I would eventually “grow out of it.” I’m 41 now… and unfortunately, that hasn’t happened. Actually, the opposite has happened. Since entering perimenopause a little over two years ago, my migraines have become dramatically more frequent, more severe, and much harder to predict. What was already a lifelong struggle has become an entirely different level of difficult. I just saw my neurologist a few days ago because I’ve been stuck in a migraine cycle for TWO MONTHS. My rescue medication doesn’t seem to be working the way it used to, and I never know when I’m going to have a completely debilitating day versus a day where I can somewhat function. So we decided to add a new medication to my treatment plan with the hope of breaking this current cycle AND helping prevent future attacks. I started it today. 🙏🏻 In the meantime, I’ve been doing EVERYTHING I can to try to get my brain out of this pain cycle — my prescribed medications, my migraine supplements, drinking my Migrainium, magnesium baths, ice, rest… whatever I can reasonably try. But the part that has been especially frustrating and scary lately has been the cognitive symptoms. I’ll be talking and suddenly forget a word. I’ll be halfway through a sentence and completely forget what I was talking about. I’ll take these LONG pauses while desperately searching my brain for the word I’m trying to say. Sometimes I genuinely need my parents to help me finish a thought. And yes… I intentionally left those moments in this video. Because this is what it actually looks like. I’ve experienced cognitive symptoms during migraine attacks since I was a teenager. In my teens and 20s, I remember things like looking directly at a phone number and being unable to dial the correct numbers, having slurred speech, or forgetting what I was doing. Those episodes typically lasted a day or two. This time, the cognitive symptoms have been happening much more consistently while I’ve been stuck in this prolonged migraine cycle. Some of these symptoms can also occur with a stroke, which is why new or unusual neurological symptoms should always be taken seriously and evaluated by a medical professional. Thankfully, my neurologist evaluated me and reassured me that, in my case, the cognitive issues I’m experiencing are consistent with the prolonged migraine/pain cycle and brain fog I’ve been dealing with. I’m praying this new medication helps break this cycle because I am SO ready to have my brain back. ❤️‍🩹 And if you’re also living with chronic migraine, especially if your migraines have changed during perimenopause, I want you to know you’re not alone. 💧 I’ve also been religiously drinking Migrainium as part of what I’m doing to support myself through this flare. If you want to try it, I have it linked in the orange shopping cart below. This is my personal experience and not medical advice. Always talk with your own healthcare provider about new, worsening, or unusual neurological symptoms. #ChronicMigraine #MigraineAwareness #Perimenopause #MigraineRelief #invisibleillness @ZOK Relief Co
