@ocdbrian: A dog comes down the sidewalk and you stop walking. Not because of the dog. Because of the sentence that just arrived in your head, uninvited, fully formed: what if I'm attracted to animals? And then you do the thing. You scan. You check your own body for a flicker of something, like a security guard patting down his own pockets. You find nothing. You check again, because what if you missed it. Here's what nobody tells you. The horror you feel is not evidence against you being fine. It IS the evidence. OCD doesn't pick random thoughts. It picks the one that would destroy you if it were true. That's the whole design. So you cross the street. Then you take the longer route. Then you stop using that street at all. And every detour is your brain writing down: correct, that was dangerous, do it again tomorrow. (Meanwhile you actually love dogs. You haven't petted one in weeks. That's the part that's cruel.) You're not dangerous. You're frightened of being dangerous, which is close to the opposite thing. PS — if this is your sidewalk, your street, your 3am: Choiceful is the treatment app I'd send a friend to for OCD. A 100% personalized course built around what you're actually dealing with, therapy chat 24/7, and users seeing clinically significant improvement in their symptoms. You're still a good human. #MentalHealth #mentalillness #psychology #ocd #obsessivecompulsivedisorder #anxiety
