Im convinced majority of ppl of who are trying to be supportive and speak out. Don’t actually understand what they’re standing for.

the only reason colonist thrived in Africa was because of the existence of tribalism and caste like ideas among the people

i think people say it more as "free Sudan from violence and the current situation" not a specific actor

I took a peacemaking class in college and my professor’s phd was based around rwanda. We had to analyze different global conflicts for assignments and it took so much work because there are so many moving pieces.

Africa is very huge and mind-bogglingly diverse . Many non-Africans annoyingly think they become experts on Africa through social media.

As a Congolese I love this take because even though ”free Congo” is bringing awareness to the regional instability that the east has had for decades now, the slogan just diminishes the complexity of the situation in eastern Congo and makes people do less research on it.

I am not educated enough on the Sudan issue. but I do disagree on the Congo one. Belgium created fake ethnicity to pit Congolese against eachother

the variance within African populations is highly misunderstood, the history of these areas are quite complex. These areas have been in constant flux before influence of Europeans, right now we are witnessing the decay of the European constructs and the transition to the flux that existed centuries ago.
The previous problems still exist, however European colonialism has made it into a Frankenstein monster. There are still going to be many ugly scenes to come.

Yup! I’m Nigerian and frequently tell people to tread carefully when speaking about our civil war because as an Igbo person, there are soooo many centuries-long problems that led to that including the West.

You are almost there. These countries and the borders were formed by Europeans who came without any care of local traditions or previous tribal conflicts. So yes they are all technically Sudanese but the people would never see themselves as one people.

It’s “‘free’them from whatever” that really made it click for me. I heard someone say that like two years ago and that stuck with me because most people are not able to comprehend the layers at work but want to support/CTA into learning more about the various conflicts. Boiling it down to “free” them works because perhaps it’s just a foot into understanding if one wants to actually start. Heavy on a person wanting to get it, when comprehension is at an all time low.

Something the colonialists got right was divide and conquer, all we do is fight amongst ourselves even decades after liberation. It’s ridiculous

sometimes I try to research why a war is happening in Africa only to find out it requires reading 300 years of history, anthropology of 30 different cultures and the most complex political systems of all time💔
