Last day na ng work week ko and I’ve been looking forward to playing pickleball. Then something unexpected happened. Wala nang pwedeng mag-baby sit sa three-year-old namin. Naisip ko isama nalang siya pero narealize ko ayoko mahati yung attention ko. I didn’t want to put myself in a position where I’ll inevitably get overstimulated and frustrated. Most especially, I didn’t want to put my daughter on the receiving end of that. So I told my husband, “Kung ganun lang din, mag-stay na lang ako with the kids dito sa bahay.” Looking back, I realized I wasn’t choosing between staying home or playing pickleball. I was choosing between listening to fear and guilt or to what I really wanted to do. Buti na lang, my husband encouraged me to go. And I’m so glad I listened (ngl, he had to handle a few objections bago ako na convince 😅) One of the things I love about sports is that it demands your full attention. The moment you overthink… You miss the ball, you lose the point. Then it rewards you for staying constantly present. You win! For three hours, I wasn’t thinking about work, the house, or the plans in the next 24 hours. I was just… there. Completely in my own body. Kahit sumakit ang legs at likod ko, I came home with more energy than when I left. The hardest part isn’t leaving. It’s believing that you’re allowed to.
