Erased and suppressed that’s exactly the point. Where are the women in the stories we’ve been taught? Why are so many of the stories in the Bible and throughout history centered around men, as if women weren’t there, weren’t leading, weren’t fighting, weren’t creating, and weren’t shaping the world alongside them? Women have always been there. The question is: how many of their stories were deliberately left out, buried, or credited to men? Look at Einstein and the questions surrounding the contributions of his first wife, Mileva Marić. Whether we can prove the full extent of her contribution or not, it raises a much bigger question: how many women throughout history had their ideas, labour, discoveries, and accomplishments minimized or completely erased while men received the recognition? We can’t assume the men of the past were always the sole authors of the achievements we now attribute to them. Women were there too. They just didn’t always have the power, education, status, or voice to make sure history remembered them. So when we look at history and barely see women, maybe the question shouldn’t be, “Where were the women?” Maybe we should be asking, “Who erased them?”
