🐘 Just to clarify: this young female elephant was not attacking the tourists. She was harassing the vehicle and the people inside by repeatedly touching and investigating them. There is an important difference between harassment/curiosity and a serious attack. Notice what happened when the tourists eventually got out of the vehicle — she did not continue pursuing them. The other elephants nearby also simply watched and carried on. If she had been genuinely committed to an attack, the situation could have been very different. This is one of the unpredictable challenges that can happen on safari. Young elephants can sometimes be very curious, playful and pushy, especially when they are investigating something unfamiliar. 🐘 That doesn’t mean the situation should be taken lightly. Elephants are powerful wild animals, and their behaviour can change very quickly, so maintaining distance and following the guide’s instructions is always important. This is the beauty — and sometimes the unpredictability — of experiencing wildlife in its natural environment. 🌍🐘
