Toronto tenants at 75 Spencer Avenue in Parkdale just won: more than 30 households stopped paying rent in March, and MetCap Living withdrew the increase this week. A second rent strike is now running at 2293 Eglinton Avenue East in Scarborough over a combined 8.2% increase. In Ontario, rent can only go up by the guideline (2.5% for 2025, 2.1% for 2026) unless the Landlord and Tenant Board approves more, and withholding rent does not cancel the debt.
