Make Them Wait for the Door. Value often disappears when access becomes automatic. A person asks for a favour. You give it. They ask again, and you give more. Eventually, what began as generosity becomes part of the arrangement. They no longer receive your time as a gift. They begin to experience it as an entitlement. The amateur gives everything immediately because they want to be liked, needed, or praised for being generous. But when access has no boundary, people stop noticing the sacrifice behind it. The architect understands that controlled access preserves meaning. This is not about creating artificial frustration or making people compete for basic respect. It is about refusing to make every resource, answer, opportunity, or piece of attention permanently available to everyone. A ruler who opens every gate loses the authority of the gate. A person who says yes to everything teaches others that no is never required. Give deliberately. Reward what deserves to be repeated. Open the door when entry serves the structure. Do not turn generosity into a system where other people’s demands determine your direction. The goal is not to make people desperate for access. The goal is to make access intentional enough that it retains value. Never let your generosity become someone else’s entitlement. The amateur gives access to be loved. The architect makes access mean something. #machiavelli #theprince #philosophy #power #darkpsychology - @masteryavelli
