One thing we learned in swimming lessons is that drowning is usually very silent that’s why they harp on parents to watch their kids like a hawk when they aren’t with them in the water

There’s a lifeguard account who posts vids of swimming pools (clear water!) with people all around. NO ONE ever notices when someone drowns until the lifeguard jumps in.

Anyone who’s skeptical of this story has not grown up near a lake. Just this year our lake had a 60 year old man just off a boat full of people to get a hat and he drowned. I’ve lived near lake Lanier my entire life. I’ve lost class mates, friends, my friends parents. Had a class mate drown from just hanging out on a dock(alcohol was involved) We have over 10 drownings a summer. The mix of alcohol and no respect for water safety. Nolan had achohol in his system after being the in water 2 days. While it is sad for the family they are beating a dead horse, that boy drowned.

Comparing this two small kids that can not swim to Nolan Wells who could swim, and by all accounts was considered to be a good swimmer who was in excellent physical shape feels very bizarre to me.

I think people just assume it is like in TV shows, so much of the public's perception about these things are from cop shows. That is partially why people can't accept that he could have drowned.

I was at the community pool this summer and my sister in law noticed a kid struggling from across the pool. She be-lined over and scooped him out, but neither the lifeguards or any of the people nearby saw anything.

learned in life guard training that drowning is silent and kids splashing usually goes unnoticed because people think it's kids playing. and in top of it kids wearing dark or blue colored swimsuits make them visually disappear underwater

As one who nearly died at the beach with 4 years old and where the water only goes to your knees and nobody saw anything until the last moment... I don't think they didn't saw anything. But case closed. I hope the family can heal "well".
