Yeah this and the way Marceline got a sloppy ‘post racial’ mixed black identity slapped on them screams lack of diversity in the writers room good example of critically good media still being racist in certain aspects

Every role Roz Ryan had on CN was a black stereotype. Looking back when she played the Witch in Looney Tunes Show, I realized that her role resembled being an sassy, aggressive, black single mom to a young black child (Gossamar). On top of that, all the times Bugs would act ignorant and assume she was going to do witch like activities heavily resembles how some people are quick to make assumptions/stereotypes about black people. I’d like to also point out that years later there was literally a TTG episode where Roz Ryan briefly voiced Cyborg acting like a black stereotype and Starfire called her blaccent “the funny voice.” It was so offputting to me…😓

Did u watch fionna and cake?? In the epsiode “the worm and his orchard” cake goes thru processing and deconstructing her need to fill this expectation of what she should be she says that all these shapes she takes dont feel like her. Throughout multiple episodes we see her struggling while trying to maintain that image. Her character expresses her blackness through so much more than a “jezebel” or a “manny” she acts as a guide for fionna and a sister. Watch the show before you spew a lukewarm take.

I do agree with you it’s definitely a racial stereotype however i do want to point out that in the original AT series Fiona and Cake are a fanfic written by ice king who is inherently creepy and misogynistic towards women in general so Cake being curvy and sexualized does kinda fit the narrative of what ice king would fantasize about.
