@helpmommy66: “You need this for your baby!” But do you—or does someone just need you to buy it? 👶💸 Baby product marketing knows how to push your buttons: fear, guilt, and wanting to give your child the very best. A product can be useful without being essential, and a higher price doesn’t make you a better parent. Before you click “buy,” ask: What problem does this actually solve? What baby item did you buy and barely use? 👇 I may not be your pediatrician, but you can always find me here. #BabyProducts #BabyEssentials #NewParents #ParentingTips #HelpMommy
The only fancy things I still use on baby number 3 are a diaper pail, and the baby brezza water warmer. Other than that I just use what actually is essential!

There was a gadget that I told my wife we would definitely not buy: a wipe warmer.
Well, she ordered one behind my back because she knew it would help keep the baby from crying when the wipes were cold — and she was right.
Sooo, this proved to me that an optional gadget like this can actually solve a real problem. 😁😁😁

Also lean on your community. I have thousands of dollars worth of free second hand baby gear that friends and colleagues have given us. Newborn and infant stuff is used for so little time that second hand stuff is still nearly brand new

Totally agree. I feel like it’s the society that push us new parents to buy the fancy stuff because it’s more of a competition on who owns what!

The only two “expensive” gadgets we purchased (Secondhand, because frankly, I was never going to buy them at new cost) was the bottle washer and the baby brezza. And the baby brezza ONLY to dispense immediate and perfect warm water, because no one should trust that they’re dispensing the correct amount of formula. Those two items were worth every penny. They’re not necessary, but the value in them was worth it ten fold. Anything else was a waste outside of safety devices.

A lot of things aren’t essential but if you can afford the convenience, it is nice!

That reminds me, is “letting them cry it out” real? I mean is there something to it? It feels cruel to me.
