@boluslife: Replying to @emmseekone great question, and it's something I know only in researching myself. I obviously don't have real world experience yet, but according to some of the Irish type 1 diabetics I know, the system is there to support diabetics and access to diabetes medicine and devices are fully subsidized thru the LONG TERM ILLNESS SCHEME. As to all other aspects of irish health insurance and what is covered thru universal vs private is still to be discovered. I also want to clarify that I am obtaining residency thru marriage. I do not know what is available thru other means of immigration. I can say a vial of insulin to a nonresident in need is like €25. So yea... #ireland #immigration #type1diabetes #type1diabetic
I'm a type 1 in Ireland for 34 years, all diabetic supplies are free. I don't mind paying higher tax.

Is tandem supplies accessible there? I know lots of pumps in the US aren’t approved in other countries, so I’d wonder about that!

Also look into what hospital has the best level of care for type 1/ specialists. I’m 5 years waiting for a pump and the diabetic clinic in mullingar hospital is closing due to staff shortages.

Like living with DM1 isn't hard enough, you have to worry about how to pay for it! That's ludicrous really.

All your medications will be free. There are a number of private health insurance providers. I use it to see the endo, costs €150 and I get 75% back (this varies depending on the policy). Difference is you always get to see the same senior doctor twice a year. On the HSE, you go once a year and see the junior doctor, different one every time. There is a wait period for the pump, depends on where you’re based, in Dublin I waited three months.
