On March 23, 2025, he joined an ambulance crew responding after fellow emergency workers had gone missing. As the convoy moved through the darkness, Rifaat began recording what was happening on his phone. The footage later showed clearly marked emergency vehicles approaching the area before heavy gunfire erupted. Rifaat was among 15 emergency workers killed that day, including eight members of the Palestinian Red Crescent. His recording survived and became an important piece of evidence about the final moments of the crews. In the audio, he spoke about helping people and called out to his mother as the situation became deadly. His story is especially painful because he had chosen a profession built around saving lives. Behind the headlines was a son, a family member, a colleague, and a young man who had dreams of his own.
