When you form a strong emotional attachment to someone, especially in an anxious attachment and avoidant attachment relationship, your brain can associate that person with love, validation, comfort, rejection, longing, sexual chemistry and relief. If the relationship was inconsistent or emotionally intense, the loss of that connection can make your ex feel even MORE desirable after the breakup. Suddenly your ex looks hotter. The sex seems better. The chemistry feels impossible to replace.
