@kelciestamper: Saw this on TikTok to put ceramic mugs or pots under water to put drainage holes in them. Nail wasn’t so good but the screwdriver worked ! #hack #gardening #planthack #LifeHack #Science

Just be careful when you use the mug for coffee. It will pour out the bottom. ❤️

If you flip it upside down it already has a big hole on the other side.

You guys do realize that they’re doing this to use as pots for plants right? Not for drinking usage 😂

Horrible upgrade—you’ll never drink your coffee fast enough to keep it from draining

I don't understand the physics behind this, but it's the same physics that makes it so you can cut glass with regular scissors underwater.

everyone saying a drill not every hose has a 100 dollar drill and 25 dollar drill bits but most houses have a hamer and a screwdriver with a tote and water

I love how mad so many people are getting over this lol. We tried a drill and it didn’t work. Probably the wrong bit or we needed water. These were gifted to us and either going to be donated or repurposed. My counters are fine and my plants are gonna look cute in them ❤️

Travis Errthum :
From a material chemist: ceramics (including glass) have a very rigid structure, which conducts vibrations extremely well. So in air, any impact strong enough to break also results in a shockwave strong enough to break, so it shatters. Water absorbs the shockwave at or near the impact point, and doesn't leave any energy left to conduct to the rest of the structure.
