It’s is hard, I couldn’t understand why my son would to explode, I am seeing things I did hurt him by choices and made a very bad mistake to tell him to not cry and hold back cause he cry over things I couldn’t. Dad is around but not mentally there for him! Two older adult brothers but struggle them self! I am finally trying listen and stand back! I feel like I failed them because of choices I made.

Single mom here. My 11 year old had a concussion right before their first football game and then broke his wrist right before he was cleared to play. We went Friday for a follow up xray and he was hoping to be cleared. He wasn’t. He is cleared to play at their last regular season game (10/31) and they are in the playoffs. He is also cleared to go to practice for conditioning only right now. The issue is he’s taking it EXTREMELY hard. He is not wanting to go back to playing this season because “he has lost his spot” (he had starting position on o-line and d-line) he loves football. But he thinks this is a career ending injury. His thought process is his wrist will never be the same and his job is to protect the quarterback. I know it’s not career ending. And I know to him it’s so much more of a deal. I’m trying to be supportive. But should I push him and make him play the games he can? Or let him have his space? I can see both sides but I don’t want to push him too far

Shout out to all the single moms. You are amazing and you are enough. I know you are doing your best to address the gap your son’s father created via his absence and isn’t there to help with. Perhaps we should see men addressing those fathers and offering some advice to them.

The allowing him to fail in the hardest for me as his mom. When he forgets and assignment or misses something on an exam - I just want him to do the best. I don’t know how to let it go.

I mean really? Most sons are struggling. Who can possibly rescue him from everything. Also umm yea a great man is what most moms want for their son as a mentor for him but like where are they?? Not many of those out there these days. So yes i agree with you but also these are pretty much common knowledge but not always available.

I love this. I’m a single mom who raised four daughters alone. I follow this exact strategy, and they became very successful and loving individual individuals.

I wish I learned these points before losing my sons to estrangement. But with therapy and time I’m hopeful to reconcile and be even better.

I give my son the benefit of the doubt, we as adults have feelings sometimes that we cannot place. Why would I expect 13 yo boy to have his feelings figured out all the time.

100%. I had to learn that you gain self esteem by doing esteem able acts. You can’t give it to someone else.
