Growing up with both tornado AND earthquake drills. It’s a niche childhood. Lol

We got a day off of school in western Kentucky when I was a kid because some “scientist” named Iben Browning predicted the mother of all earthquakes to occur on the New Madrid fault for a specific date. Nothing happened. Enjoyed my day off school.

There was a big one spring of 2008. I’m in central Illinois. It was the first time I had experienced a quake…my son’s bassinet was rocking.

One of those quakes is how we got Reelfoot lake! The ground sank and Mississippi flowed backward into the basin in 1812.

I studied physics in that area in relation to the fault, cave systems, and demil sites. A lot of experts talked about how bad the next big earthquake from that line would be and they feel it’s a ticking time bomb. Because of the lack of infrastructure for earthquake prevention, it would devastate communities.
