@leokatiecbt: Receiving an OCD diagnosis later in life often brings a wave of clarity. Because traditional depictions focus heavily on external rituals, internal compulsions like mental checking, bargaining, or reassurance loops frequently go unnoticed by clinicians. When these patterns are misidentified as simple stress or general anxiety, standard treatment may not address the underlying cycle. Specialized approaches like Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) help rewire how the brain responds to intrusive thoughts, providing long-term relief. #ocd #ocdawareness #ocdsymptoms #MentalHealth #intrusivethoughts

Every single one of them is me. Apart from now I have children and a husband the fear is something happening to them. I’m also intensely fixated on time. I even wake in the night to check the time. My big one is punishment/reward. If I take the dogs for a walk then I can have that gin and tonic because I won’t be punished as I did something good first.

i keep thinking these are just because i’m autistic but i’m not so sure anymore… but i don’t want to claim to have something i don’t have because what if i think i relate or i’m pretending to share symptoms but deep down i actually don’t, idk i’d feel like a terrible person

I used to pick feet off my skin as a kid. I’d pick so much off though it would end up hurting to walk. I always got in a bit of a trance doing it and it was like relaxing. Is this similar to what you’re describing? I did it for yearsss

I’ve had a lot of these, I am late diagnosed autistic too. I’ve noticed through the mechanisms I’ve built to help, some of these have got better as I’ve got older, can that happen?

from the ages of 6-11 I believed everyone was a robot. I was told off for not concentrating in class. I was making sure everyone was breathing. becuase robots dont breathe. from ages 8-10 I was convinced everykne was trying to kill me. i was terrified of my own parents. I started therapy. from the ages of 11-15 I suffered with severe contamination ocd. im nearly 21, still in therapy and under watch of mh teams, medicated been hospitalised once and now my kid doesn't just affect some thoughts or processes. it effects everything. every thought, everything I do. but the contamination will never go. I feel dirty all the time. and its exhausting. I have no friends becuase I was such a mess during school years that I never made any. and now I cant work☹️it sucks

so, my therapists used to diagnose me with specific anxious disorders they labeled as "worst case scenario syndrome" and "anxious predictions" l. I am diagnosed ASD, but along with many other issues I face I believe OCD is the reason I struggle so much. my fingers bleed every day from picking, my mind is exhausted from the looping thoughts, and I just feel it's getting worse now I'm later in life and hormones are going wild. is there any treatment for OCD? all I'm ever offered is antidepressants, but I'm so scared to try them. if they make me just a fraction worse I don't think I'll make it. but I now feel I need something to make this cycle stop.
