@itsjillianrowe: At some point in European medical history, somebody looked at an Egyptian mummy and thought, “You know what? We should probably eat that for health and longevity.” And then OTHER PEOPLE AGREED. Welcome to one of my favorite Weird Science rabbit holes: the centuries-long European obsession with using powdered human remains as medicine. Yes. Actual mummies. No. It did not work. And somehow, this story gets even weirder. #WeirdScience #ScienceTok #MedicalHistory #HistoryTok #ancientegypt
How about the monks that would volunteer to eat only honey at the end of their life, when they began to defecate honey they would die & be covered in boiling honey & sealed in their sepulchre for 100 years to make melamine of man used for medicine. (From the book "Stiff"❤️)

Wealthy people especially in the mid 1800's would have "Unrapping parties" where they would invite their friends over to unwrap a mummy in the parlor, often over tea. And that is why there is a Mummy with a tea cup in the Haunted Mansion graveyard scene.

I had a anthology/archeologist professor about 4 years ago who gave a whole lecture on how to get rid of a body. His second top way was to take someone to Egypt, because the body trade is still very prominent for mumified remains.

Medieval doctors also thought pus was a sign of healing! And some of the doctors and other intellectuals of the time thought they could gain wisdom and knowledge by wearing a funnel on their head - though in later years it evolved into the "dunce cap" and meant the opposite.
