Last night at 3:51am I was sitting in the nursery holding my baby and my anxiety was BAD. Nothing was actually wrong. Baby was fed. Baby was safe. The house was quiet. But my brain apparently decided 3am was the perfect time to think about literally everything that could possibly go wrong 😅 I kept checking if she was breathing. Thinking about whether she ate enough. Wondering if I was doing any of this right. Replaying things from earlier that day that absolutely did not need to be replayed at 3:51 in the morning 😂 And the weirdest part about those middle-of-the-night spirals is how alone they feel. Everyone else is sleeping. There’s nobody to text because what am I even going to say? “Hey sorry to wake you, my baby is completely fine but my brain has decided we’re in crisis mode” 😭 Then my phone buzzed. 5 moms sent you hugs. I opened it. California. Germany. And a few other moms scattered around the world. I don’t know any of them. They don’t know me. But they were awake too. I opened the map and there were little yellow lights everywhere. Every light was another mom who was currently feeding, pumping, rocking, scrolling, or just trying to make it through another night. And for some reason seeing that made my anxiety drop almost immediately. Not disappear. Nothing magically changed. But that feeling of I’m the only person awake dealing with this disappeared. There was a mom in Germany awake with me. A mom in California. Hundreds of moms whose houses probably looked exactly like mine in that moment. Dark rooms. Tiny nightlights. Half-empty water bottles. Burp cloths everywhere. Phones turned down to 2% brightness 😂 And babies who have absolutely no respect for time zones. I think sometimes postpartum anxiety gets louder because the world gets so quiet. At 2pm there are distractions everywhere. At 3:51am there is nothing between you and your thoughts. So seeing all those lights felt like somebody quietly turning the volume down. Eventually I put my baby back down. She stayed asleep. I climbed into bed. And before I closed the app, I sent a few hugs back. Maybe somewhere in Germany another mom’s phone lit up too. 💛 #mom #baby #MomsofTikTok #momtok #momlife
