Some gym mistakes are inconvenient. Others can genuinely hold back your progress. Changing exercises every session might feel productive, but if you never repeat movements long enough to track and improve them, progressive overload becomes much harder. Never deloading is another one people get wrong. A deload isn’t something you need every few weeks just because a programme says so. But if you’ve been progressing hard, fatigue is building and your performance or recovery is starting to suffer, temporarily reducing training stress can be useful. And no, you don’t need to take every exercise to absolute failure. Training close to failure is enough to stimulate muscle growth in most cases. Going all the way can make sense on certain isolation exercises where the fatigue and injury risk are relatively low. Good training doesn’t need to be complicated. Choose effective exercises. Track them. Progress them. Manage fatigue. Train hard enough to create a reason for your body to adapt. Then repeat that process for long enough to actually see results.
