She raised the boys in the way that best suited the boys. She didn’t leave them to the wilderness—they ran off every day. She still checked on them, was worried about them, and saved them. We also see the boys clearly care about her: on of Ace’s last words is mentioning her, Luffy hates mountain bandits but likes her, and Dadan loves and cares about the boys. One of the most central themes in the series is that family is what you choose. They choose each other and are why each other need. And yes they did choose even if Garp initially put them together.

dadan is a mom even to the mountain Pirates are mountain thieves or whatever they're called. she has babied them to survival. it looks like all of them respect her so much like a mom. you can see in the enemy at least manga. I'm not too sure but in the anime they all treat her like a mom so she's not just a mom to our boys. luffy ace and Sabo she's a mom to the whole bandit group like she's the best. mom

I also love that she rightly names Luffy as the one grieving the most after Makino tries to tell her that Grap is grieving. Always looking out for her boys. I hope she gets to see Sabo again.

Dadan is my favorite mother in the series since her unconventional rough around the edges nature with raising the boys made her love for them more impactful, she's so underrated and deserves more love

for me mothers come in all shapes and sizes. also dadan feels more like a grandmother then a mother in a way. how Garp is there grand father. oda said that mothers are the opposite of adventure. which I viewed it as mothers generally want to keep there kids safe which dadan does but she doesn't stop the boys from adventure.

Dadan had to step up to raise those boys. Garp just dropped em off one day and was like “they’re your problem now” that being said, she did what she could with what was given to her. Those boys were always gonna get adventurous and she didn’t stop them from leaning into that side of themselves. But they also always came back to her at the end of the day. And they often hunted for food which she would then cook for them. She loved those boys and they loved her and saw her as a mother figure. They were family to each other and she most definitely would’ve given her life for Ace’s if she could’ve at marineford
