The digital skin smoothing of Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon in The Morning Show is particularly egregious, and so obvious that I don’t know why they bother

I was a film major and once toured a post house facility with a class. They had just finished the first iron man and they were going through shots they had touched up. As they were scrolling through the movie files I noticed a scene with Gwyneth Paltrow in a backless dress and I asked if they had touched up her back. He complemented my eye as that shot was literally on the screen for a second, and then turned off the filter. Her back went from perfectly smooth to rolls of skin, like a very skinny woman who had twins and thus her skin was stretched out. But he also showed us that they can pretty much fix/change anything and this was back in 2008 I can’t imagine how far technology has evolved now even without ai.

this is why they are easy to replace with AI, bc they've been already showing fake faces in ads and movies for decades

I’m absolutely fine with using Fx on teenagers, especially with acne. First: continuity would be misery without it. Second: I remember being a teenager, so the idea of my acne being memorialized and talked about for the rest of forever by fans? Absolutely not.

I understand acne. There’s only so much that can be done with hair and makeup and lighting—plus it’s a continuity issue, since pimples will worsen, get better, go away, and new ones will show up. And then there’s the character, if they’re described as being an adonis in a book, and now the actor that is playing them is human—wrinkles and pimples will need to be removed/diminished. However, constantly de-aging every actor across every production is too much. IMO it’s use should be reserved for story purposes—and to show actors some humanity around pimples, scars, etc.

To be fair, these cameras are way to sharp. Ever notice you look completely different in the mirror than you do when you take a pic on your phone. I look 100 on my phone 🤣

Worked in LA at an editing house. Melissa McCarthy would come in and demand to look more “cheerful” and it took forever and she was mean about it

I KNEW IT. I was watching The Love Hypothesis and during the intimacy scene, I thought, why am I noticing that their backs and legs have real skin texture? This explains so much about the retouching that other films do.
