I watched AHS Roanoke but I didn’t know it was supposed to be the first colony in the US that was unknown… I always thought Jamestown was the first colony. Jamestown was founded in 1607

Highly recommend The Lost Colony and Hatteras Island by Scott Dawson. If possible maybe even a trip to his museum where he has artifacts from his archeological works. (They merged with native tribes in the area)

It was solved. They were adopted by the Roanoke tribe, that's why there were many recorded sights of Native Americans having mixed features.

The guy who found that they “disappeared” hadn’t gone back for 3 years because of the Anglo Spanish war. When he came back he found it was gone and “Croatoan” carved into a tree. What does that mean? It referred to the neighboring tribe the “The Croatoan People”. They could’ve integrated into the tribe. That’s what I found online about one of the leading and the theory I’ve believed

This was figured out, they found a old map and it had the new settlement near a indigenous tribe because they weren’t surviving the winter. Later the same map had the fort covered up to hide it from pirates and thieves
