They do this with every animated universe, ice age, hotel Transylvania, despicable me, megamind. They make the characters cutsey quirky and silly, and completely remove any depth that made them so successful in the first place. Like in hotel Transylvania youll see johnny turn into a total moron, dracula becomes a half brained clumsy father, and maeve character gets sidelined in favor of the men and never really evolves beyond being the wife to johnny and mother to their son
