Dude. Just last week - “er needs help they need a bipap su in 16, machine is in there.” I go in, bipap there no pt. “Ok pt okay for imaging I’ll gather info… 96yr old altered… ok what’s gas… ok resp acidosis not terrible but there ok… OH! Needs Japanese interpreter… ok…” pt arrives, shakes head no when I ask if she speaks English, tell the tech I need interpreter who then insists she speaks English but only a few phrases and she’s demented apparently (I know, all bad)… I get 1:1, night shift rt helping me out on bipap (technically unable to consent) then out of no where pt goes, “no I don’t need that I’m breathing fine! Oh just kill me already!” 😳😳😳 Ma’am. Okay night shift you got this may want to see if she’s corrected and try to figure out what her actual mentation is

well here we have hypercapnia associated delirium with agitation/combative behavior. I usually get with the nurse to give them a lil something to calm them down but sometimes they end up biting the tube
