i spent the first two months thinking something was wrong with me because I felt both things at once. I'd hold her at 3am and feel like my heart was going to burst out of my chest and in the exact same breath I'd want my old life back so badly it hurt. I thought a good mom wasn't supposed to feel that. Turns out almost every new mom I've talked to feels exactly that and just doesn't say it out loud. So here it is out loud. The newborn stage can suck. Postpartum anxiety is real. The fourth trimester is lonely and the sleep deprivation makes everything heavier. And you can still love this baby more than anything on earth. Both are true. You don't have to pick. What got me through wasn't anyone telling me it gets better. It was other moms saying me too. Knowing there were other women awake at the exact same hour feeling the exact same thing changed everything for me.
