@sdelanovussr: In the Soviet Union, in 1990, my friends and I set off toward the Chernobyl exclusion zone hoping to find valuable abandoned materials. I had sold my Volga and bought an old military GAZ-66, which we loaded with supplies, protective equipment, tools, and a dosimeter. After hours on the road, we passed the checkpoint and continued through an increasingly strange landscape. Military trucks appeared on the highway, a huge herd of wild horses suddenly crossed directly in front of us, and abandoned villages stood completely silent along the road. By evening, we reached Zalesye and stopped beside an old well to fill our water containers. Everything seemed quiet until a mysterious voice suddenly called out from behind a nearby fence, asking what we were doing there. We froze beside the truck, staring at each other and wondering who had found us in this seemingly deserted place. #USSR #sovietunion #History #story
