In 1967, ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) was created, a bloc initially formed by five countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. The objective was simple yet strategic: to create economic cooperation, political stability, and regional integration in a part of the world that was still considered peripheral in the global system. At that time, Southeast Asia was composed of economies that were still largely unindustrialized. Many countries relied on agriculture, raw material exports, and had extremely low average incomes. In 1967, the region's average GDP per capita was around 122 dollars, reflecting economies that were still in the early stages of development. The first major transformation took place between 1980 and 1995. Countries like Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand began attracting international investment, creating industrial and technological hubs. This process coincided with globalization and the growth of Asian production chains. Southeast Asia began producing electronics, machinery, components, and industrial goods for the world. During this period, exports grew rapidly, and the region became increasingly integrated into global trade. Despite facing the 1997 Asian financial crisis, the region reorganized itself and continued to grow at average rates between 4% and 7% per year, outperforming many developed economies. Today, looking at 2025, the scenario is completely different from that of 1967. The ASEAN bloc brings together around 680 million people and has a combined economy close to 4 trillion dollars, making it one of the largest economic regions on the planet. If it were a single country, ASEAN would already rank among the largest economies in the world. The bloc also accounts for about 7% of global GDP. This growth highlights something important about the modern world: the center of the global economy is gradually shifting toward Asia. While many countries are still debating politics and ideology, entire regions are building infrastructure, industry, and economic integration. #asean #fypシ゚ #panjinews #fyp #fyppppppppppppppppppppppp
