The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has placed Nigeria on high alert following the continued spread of Ebola Virus Disease in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The high alert means our health authorities are increasing surveillance and preparedness to prevent the virus from being imported into Nigeria and, if a case is detected, to respond quickly. Travellers coming from countries with active or relevant Ebola transmission may also be subjected to enhanced screening, health declarations and follow-up. So please, don’t panic. But don’t ignore this either. If you develop symptoms such as sudden fever, severe weakness, headache, muscle pain, vomiting or diarrhoea, particularly after recent travel or possible exposure, seek medical attention and disclose your travel or exposure history to the healthcare worker.
