@mothershipsg: “A new chapter begins, with the red and white now his to represent,” said the Football Association of Singapore in an Instagram post on Sep. 27, announcing Perry Ng’s new citizenship. The 30-year-old could now represent the Lions at the Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia next January. Ng is believed to be the first athlete born overseas with third-generation Singaporean heritage to gain Singapore citizenship. His late grandfather was born in Singapore. However, citizenship by descent requires at least one parent to have been born in Singapore or to have acquired Singapore citizenship through registration.
