OLIGODACTYLY👇👇 This is a congenital limb difference called oligodactyly, a condition in which a person is born with fewer than five fingers or toes. 🧬 CAUSES It happens when the hand does not develop normally during early pregnancy. Causes can include genetic factors, certain developmental conditions, or disruption of blood supply during limb development. Sometimes, the exact cause is never identified. ⚠️ COMPLICATIONS Depending on the affected structures, it may cause: Difficulty with grasping and fine movements Abnormal hand growth Problems with strength or coordination Associated abnormalities of the bones or other limbs 🏥 TREATMENT Treatment depends on the child's anatomy and function. Some children need no treatment, while others may benefit from hand therapy, prosthetic devices, or reconstructive surgery to improve function. 🛡️ PREVENTION There is no guaranteed way to prevent most cases because the exact cause is often unknown.
