@braddasd: Non-verbal autism & communication... People often assume that because someone is non-verbal, they can't communicate at all. For a long time, that was our reality too. But over the years, Mason has found lots of different ways to tell us what he wants and how he's feeling. Whether it's Gestalt Language Processing, echolalia, AAC, Makaton, hand leading, gestures or facial expressions... he's always communicating. We just had to learn his language. Well done mason. This is massive!!! My son was obsessed with American juices and sweets. So guess what I bought him it all so he could try it. My boy lives on carrot waffles and fish fingers and chips. When we go all inclusive on holiday he tries loads off diff foods even seafood. He doesn’t want it when we come home but I’m always proud he tries different stuff! And well done dad!! 👏

Calling this “non-verbal” is incredibly misleading when he clearly talks. There are people who genuinely don’t speak at all, and using the term so loosely risks erasing the reality of their experiences

Sorry for inundating your videos with comments, lol! Something to help with foods - my son’s dietitian said changing the shape of something but keeping the same flavour can also help. Like potato waffles for instance, try buying potato smiles. Or with sausages, get the loin sausage patties. It’s another way to broadened their willingness to try new things.
