It is said that all Awliya are from the Ahlal bait (the blessed family of the Prophet saw), and the Ahlal bait will not touch Sadaqa. You can give hadiya (gifts) to them, but not Sadaqa and when you want to give you have to explicitly say so

Their sins are so obvious to others to the extent where they’re presumed to be out of God’s mercy but in reality it’s their clean hearts and fear of God and secret repentance that elevated them over others…… don’t ever judge God’s creation you don’t know you might be addressing one of them.
