If we believe a leader is doing a good job, why should we be forced to change leadership simply because of term limits? Countries develop when they have strong institutions, long-term planning, and leaders who are given enough time to implement their vision. China’s development is often used as an example of what long-term planning can achieve. Ghana also needs a clear long-term development plan that goes beyond the usual four- or eight-year political cycle. I believe John Dramani Mahama should be given the opportunity to focus on building Ghana for the long term if the Ghanaian people continue to support his leadership. But any changes to presidential term limits should be decided through Ghana’s constitutional and democratic processes. For me, the bigger question is not simply who becomes president. It is: How do we build a system that allows Ghana to plan, develop, and prosper for the next 20 years and beyond? Ghana deserves long-term vision, strong institutions, accountability, and leaders who put the country’s future first.
