In my opinion, Prince Myshkin fails where Alyosha succeeds. Both are written as Christ-like figures but while Prince Myshkin goes after an artistic reflection of good and evil, Alyosha embraces the world as it is, kissing the earth with all its beauty and suffering. He is as inherently good as the Prince, but he understands and grounds himself in reality, in a way Prince Myshkin never could. One is resurrected, while the other is still on the cross, holy in his suffering but never rising above it.

I read this in my early 20s I was in love with the innocence of the prince ❤️. It is such a good book if you can power through some of the lengthy dialogues.

I’m starting to get into Dostoyevsky. Read crime and punishment and I loved it. I was going to read notes from the underground next

The craziest thing is, a film I saw back in 1998 called Yugpurush, really moved me. The story stayed with me for decades, and it is only now, in 2026, that I've realised that Dosteovsky's The Idiot was its inspiration. Haven't read the book, but judging by the film, I LOVE this story and concept!
