I wouldn’t say it’s the most expensive way, it looks clean and tidy without a doubt, we installed this type of finish 20 years on a up market shopping brand stores in the uk.. problem we had was staff would damage the wall when pushing there stock trolly through, a surface skirting would of prevented it.. also when the door slams or moves the it doesn’t crack the plaster as the shadow gap trim prevents the movement down the wall…

We installed Miles of this in a guy’s house that developed Blackhawk at least 40 years ago. We call the shadow Molding we painted the reveal black..
