@custosdei: Why Did Jesus Cry Out “My God, My God”? At the darkest moment of the crucifixion, Jesus cried: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” These words can sound like despair. But there is something fascinating behind them. Jesus was quoting the opening words of Psalm 22, a prayer written centuries before His crucifixion. The psalm begins in anguish, but gradually moves toward trust, hope and the proclamation of God’s faithfulness. So even in His deepest suffering, Jesus was praying with the words of Scripture. That changes the way we can hear His cry. Sometimes, faith does not mean having no questions. Sometimes faith means crying out to God while still turning toward Him.
