This is complete nonsense, switching exercise patterns just wornsens your neurological adaptation to specific movements, if you switch to a new exercise, you’re gonna het way stronger in it for the first 2-4 weeks, then when your CNS adaptation, you’ll only be limited by muscle mass.

Zakk :
When sticking to one exercise you can max out neuro-mechanical adaptations, meaning that your progress is solely from additional tissue having grown. Constantly switching exercise means your brain is constantly adapting to new technique, limiting growth.

Iappal :
What about neuronal adaptation. It takes time for the brain to fully maximize its output on an exercise. Your neurons do need to adapt every time you switch an exercise. You will get a fast boost of strength the first few times, not because your muscles are getting stronger, but because your brain learns how to fulfill the task in the most efficient way possible. This inhibits muscle growth, since you can’t reach every muscle fiber in the first weeks. Thus No Neuronal Adaptations -> Less neuronal output -> less muscle fibers activated -> less hypertrophy. The muscle gain happens in the Plateau phases where your Brain reaches its maximum Adaptation

I have been progressing on barbell bench very slowly recently. Shall i move to dumbbell bench press? Is that a variation?

This isn’t quite correct tho, changing them around will mostly cause neural adaptations for that specific exercise giving the illusion of progress, doing the same exercise longer is totally fine

This is really solid insight and an appropriate use of AI and Claude (AI isn’t all bad haha). I’m going to come back tomorrow and give my own feedback!!

I understand why it works but how the fuck do i do it like can you actually explain or give some kind of routine or something like do I just go to the gym and do the same 3 lifts for a week but focus on the lift I’m weaker at first and then every week change the “fundamental movement pattern” and just hit a different “fundamental movement pattern” every week like I’ve watched this video for 2 days trying to break wtv the hell your saying down into (an actual split) like when I go to the gym wtf do I do and when tf do I do it
