Not long ago, I was earning £18K a year as a law graduate. These are 10 things that completely changed the direction of my career: 1. I stopped only looking at careers related to my degree I realised my degree didn’t have to decide what I did for the rest of my life. I started researching careers based on earning potential and progression instead. 2. I discovered tech sales I had no idea you could get into tech companies without being technical. Then I found sales roles where companies were willing to train people from completely different backgrounds. 3. I learned how to sell my transferable skills Communication, resilience, problem solving, confidence and dealing with people were already skills I had. I just needed to learn how to position them properly. 4. I stopped applying to hundreds of random jobs Instead of clicking Easy Apply all day, I became much more intentional about the companies and roles I targeted. 5. I learned how to actually interview I stopped winging interviews. I prepared examples, practised my answers, researched the company and learned how to explain WHY they should hire me. 6. I chose a career where performance could increase my income I didn’t want my salary to be determined purely by how long I’d been somewhere. Sales gave me a base salary plus the opportunity to earn more through commission. 7. I became obsessed with getting better Cold calling, discovery, objection handling, negotiation, closing. I treated every weakness like something I could learn. 8. I made my career progression intentional I didn’t just wait around hoping someone would eventually promote me. I learned what was required for the next level and worked towards it. 9. I stopped being scared to move companies When I’d outgrown an opportunity, I was willing to look elsewhere rather than staying somewhere for years purely because it felt comfortable. 10. I stopped putting a ceiling on what I thought I could earn Going from £18K to £100K felt impossible. But I reached £135K. The biggest thing I learned is that your first salary does NOT have to determine what you earn for the rest of your career. Since making the switch, I’ve helped 500+ people from backgrounds including law, the NHS, teaching, retail, finance, recruitment, hospitality and recent graduates learn how to break into tech sales. If you want the free training + step-by-step roadmap on how to land your first tech sales role, comment “TECH” below and I’ll send it to you. #techsales #careertok #careers #graduate #graduatejobs Tech sales, career change, £100k salary, high paying careers, tech sales jobs UK, graduate jobs, entry level tech sales, career progression, remote jobs, SaaS sales
