I “judged” my nephews artwork once it was me basically saying “hey bud you know it’d look neater if you stayed inside the lines” to which he responded “I don’t want it neater” “oh?” “Yeah I want it messy” “oh then it’s perfect” I didn’t know what to say to that. I was trying to get him to work on his finer motor skills but hey 😂

When my nephew was 8, he couldn't draw well at all. Now, he can draw photo realistic pictures as a doodle. He wouldn't have continued to hone any of his artistic skill if we had responded to his younger art like this.

Joseph was so used to getting compliments because he's good at sports, so probably it definitely hit extremely hard when he got critiqued for his artwork I want to know how has Simon been reacting to when his uncle critiques him of sports? Because he's only 6 and his uncle expects him to be just as good as his brother? I'm a little surprised this conversation hasn't been thought of sooner. I will not be surprised at some point if the boys start to fight over what they want to play/do when the uncle watches them because each kid is going to want to play/do what they know the uncle will compliment them at so they get the compliments.

My 6 year old comes up often and shows me her drawings. Im like oh wow!!! that is beautiful, look at the colors you chose, I love that you placed the Sun below the sky, its so unique. It's called fostering the love of drawing and art. You don't squash their lives over artwork.

Kids need motivation I’m just happy they are drawing and not on a video game. I encourage my daycare babies. If they say it’s a dinosaur 🦕 then it’s a dinosaur

I remember my nephews (like, I was 25 and they were 8) seeing my artwork and being sad, saying they could never be that good. I would pull out a drawing from when I was little, and would tell them I was only good because I had a lot of years of practice and they were pretty dang awesome in my eyes, even better than I was at their age - and would then tell them things I really liked about what they drew. I would keep it real, but absolutely lift them up as much as I could. I HATE it when people make kids feel bad for trying 😡
