At the surface I’d say a good amount of people think Vinland saga is either about the short lived excitement of battle or it being the only thing you can to be the person you need to be in order to achieve something or simply survive or some people say it’s a story of redemption and resurrection which at the base is but it goes way deeper than that Vinland saga is about a boy who lost a person of great importance being his father and that driving him to the sword in order to enact revenge on askalad and become strong but throughout his journey with Askalads group he forms a connection with the group maybe not friends but askalad gave him a chance and over time thorfinn made the thought that maybe it wasn’t his destiny to kill askalad but work with him and sure at the last of s1 he seems like he would’ve killed him but askalad knew he wouldn’t plus that askalad was at the end of his line. So overall I think thorfinns journey or the main idea of Vinland saga is to realize what the main goal of your journey is not some in the moment idea, I mean the light at the end of the tunnel, what you would know would be the right path when your in your final moments and that straying away from a goal that isn’t fully found isn’t a bad thing and we see that is the second season thorfinn is in full zen with his goal he k owes exactly what his destination is.
