As a student not as a teacher, I would like to ask a question Sir : Why is English considered so necessary in our system? All the nations that have progressed in the world have done so in their own languages. Even in India, English is treated as an optional subject and is not given so much importance. But in Pakistan, a person's competence is judged by how well he can speak English. In elite schools like City School and Lahore Grammar School, children are taught to speak English fluently, and we look at them with admiration just because their English is good. So my question is, why is English made so compulsory and seen as a symbol of intelligence? I am not criticizing, I genuinely want to understand the reason behind this
