Yes, like the black dog she originally titled “old habits die screaming” that means she wrote the song as a whole developed feeling then looked for the title!

she explained that she wrote ophelia while scrolling through her notes app and saw an old line that said fate of ophelia and that’s how the song was made. i feel like that’s how the entire album was made. from scraps but they still feel incomplete

Agreed. To me, it feels like she goes into her notes of lyrics she’s saved, picks ones she thinks relates to the theme, forces them into the song, and then fills in the rest with filler lyrics

I think she admitted that she does this when she said she keeps a Notes app with hundreds of words that she wants to use it when she wants to write a song. She just goes into the app and looks for words that she’s written down. That’s how she wrote the fate of Ophelia.

As someone that knows a little bit more about music. It's always supposed to be music first lyrics second. you can obviously have an idea for some lyrics, but don't try to make lyrics work if you don't have the beat down

1000%. I’ve been in so many writing sessions where everyone in the session is excited about a name/concept but it just didn’t always work. The best songs sometimes come out when you let that idea go. A hook doesn’t always have to be poetic, it CAN just be simple and catchy. I think earlier in her career she had co-writers who would push back and say “love the concept, but that lyric doesn’t sing well,” but now she’s surrounded by yes people who are just agreeing because of who she is.
