Why do people care so much about how other women give birth? I saw this the other day and it ENRAGED me. Why is there so much judgement around something that is so personal, so unpredictable, and so tied up with our bodies, our safety and our mental health? And why do we still reward women for enduring unnecessary pain? 🫠 There is absolutely nothing “posh” about having a caesarean. It isn’t the easy way out. It’s major surgery. For many women it isn’t even a choice, it’s the safest option. And yet the language around it is loaded with shame and blame. In Bimbo, I write about how language is used to control women - and this is the perfect example. I’m honestly sick of men talking about our reproductive rights and our birth choices. Sick of headlines and phrases like “too posh to push” that exist purely to judge and humiliate women. I had a vaginal birth and it left me traumatised and still needing corrective surgery. I wish I’d had a C-section the first time. Instead, my experience was brushed off as a “negative birth story” - as if trauma is just an attitude problem. A caesarean allowed me to have a positive birth experience. It gave me dignity. It gave me peace. And it allowed me to recover without carrying trauma into early motherhood, which in turn helped me be a better mum 🤍 The Ockenden Report showed how dangerous it is to deny women caesareans. Yet we’re still here, blaming women instead of listening to them. Still expecting us to be sacrificial. Still acting as if suffering is a requirement of motherhood. 💔 So please, can men - and honestly anyone - stop judging women for birth choices that have absolutely nothing to do with them? You are strong and powerful however you decide to give birth because with all the medication in the world it still isn’t easy. Here’s to empowering us all to have the birth that works for them. 💪 #fyp #csection
