@nichellelaus: I watched Heart of the Beast last night (incredible movie btw! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) and loved seeing the bond between a man and his German Shepherd. It also reminded me of a PSA from a fellow GSD owner that was shared with me, and inspired this post. I’m sharing the message in my own words and from my perspective as someone who loves life with two German Shepherds. They’re wonderful companions, but they need daily time, training, exercise, and care. That commitment lasts long after the puppy stage, and long after the movie leaves theatres. Enjoy the film and admire the dog. Just make sure you’re ready for the real-life commitment before bringing one home. 🐾 Let me know in the comments what you thought of the movie if you’ve seen it 👇🏼 #heartofthebeast #GSD
Also research what diseases they are prone to. My girl had DM

I absolutely LOVE the German Shepherd breed as I have 3 of my own! ❤️🐾 But I’m also the first person to tell anyone considering one: DO YOUR RESEARCH!
German Shepherds are incredibly smart, loyal, loving, and amazing dogs, but they are also WORK. 😅 Make sure you have the time and commitment for training, socializing, exercise, mental stimulation, and grooming.
And let me tell you… owning a German Shepherd means your housework is NEVER finished. 😂 There will be hair. Everywhere. On everything. In places you didn’t even know hair could get. 😂
They’re an incredible breed, but they’re not a breed to get on a whim. They deserve the time, training, attention, and commitment they need to thrive. ❤️🐕

I tell people human babies/toddlers are easier. They wear diapers, don’t have sharp teeth, and aren’t as fast😂 and you can reason with them. We thought we researched well. Now 2 Gsd later and 5k in training, and with my entire daily routine changed, we are in a good place.

They are nightmare dogs tbh. I adore my gsd, he’s my whole world - but he’s a full-time job. But I’m self-employed, I work from home, I enjoy cleaning, and I have a high pain tolerance (iykyk). I’ll never own a different breed but gsds are ALOT of work.

Sadly this happens after every movie, as she stated do your research these dogs need so much to thrive. German Shepherd are one of the highest in numbers in shelter because people don’t understand the breed! She is spot on this is Knox he is our 5th GSD he is also. A working cardiac alert dog

When I walked out of the movie I was so emotional that all I wanted to do was go home and hug my 9 lb dog. I know my limits on dogs. My 9lb dog has the heart of the beast.

We did so much research, we thought we were ready. It was so much harder than we thought. And we had 2 kids at the time 😂 We stuck it out and my guy is my favorite. But they deserve someone committed to it and ready for it. So Ask yourself, “Am i ready for a child? Do i want a child?” If the answer is yes to both these questions, you might be ready 😂

My fear is that there will be an exceptionally large dumping of GSD’s after this movie - I remember what happened after 101 dalmations - everyone had to have them and they were a difficult breed also.

Yes, German Shepherds need a lot of constant training. 5 month puppy. They’re a LOT of dog in that beautiful package of a dog. 💕

We rescued this boy, because his original owners were unable to handle him. He lost his eyes when they dumped him in the desert.

I am a GSD owner as well. I feel as though people will get them after this movie, and then they shelters will end up with many of them. I have owned 4 of them in my lifetime and you are spot on.
