@melvin.f2: Building the Spillway at White Rock Lake (1911) In crews worked tirelessly to build the spillway at White Rock Lake, a project that would define Dallas's water supply and recreation for generations. Laborers used concrete, stone, and early machinery to shape the massive structure. The project was part of a plan to create a reliable reservoir for the growing city. Over time, White Rock Lake became both a vital resource and a beloved public park. The spillway's design allowed for controlled water flow and flood prevention. Men stood ankle-deep in mud, shaping what would become one of Dallas's most enduring landmarks. The image reflects hard work, determination, and the city's early commitment to progress and sustainability.

In the early ‘60s I used to take my date out there and watch the “ SUBMARINE RACES “. Senior year we had a dance out at Winfrey Point. Went fishing out there with a good buddy of mine. After heavy, heavy rains would park by the spill Bay just to watch the overflow and listen to the rumbling thundering water.

In the early 80s, I work for the Hunley family that ran the snack shop and rented out the paddle boats and Sunfish sailboats .I got paid five dollars a day. I work from nine in the morning until sunset. It took me all summer to buy a pair of $45 speed skates. It was one of the best times of my life growing up as a kid.
