Is there any hope for them? Do any of them actually recover?

Oof this just really got me thinking about a "friend" of mine and man this sucks. I don't think they are as much of a victim as said person claims.

Went to therapy so I could be “less crazy” and ended up being told this was the aftermath of coming out of an abusive relationship (friendship).

I don't know what even to say... bc I bent over backwards trying to "do" the right thing even heard from him that I don't hold myself accountable and the therapist agreed. my panic attacks and anxiety attacks got so much worse, for a while I was leaving work early bc of em... i tried everything to "correct" my behavior... until I realized it wasn't me... and now I will call him manipulative... and I'm getting divorced... so... still feel like I'm in the wrong sometimes bc it was such. mind f#%k

My ex childhood best friend of 7 years was definitely a narcissist. "You always ruin everything!" responding to me crying after she actively bullied me or even physically hurt me.

everyone is toxic in a toxic relationship. No one is a victim. Adults are adults and its none of our business

the victim wants the truth out in the open the abuser needs to triangulate

When he cheated I wasn’t even allowed to raise my voice . The cheating wasn’t important, my tone of voice was what he focused and I apologized to him 🥺

It took me MANY many therapy sessions to stop saying that I am the abuser, because I was believing everything that I was being told about myself. In my last session my therapist finally told me that narcissists take zero accountability and I have done nothing but take accountability for every little thing that I did. When his gaslighting was brought up, he would immediately change the subject. Lies, subject change about something I did that forced him to lie. I hated myself…

He brought out the absolute worst in me, may that dynamic never find me again. He talked about his exes the way you described too, basically verbatim, and I didn’t even clock that as a red flag.

Thank you. It’s also horrible because the job of educating people also falls on the victim whom’s actively being painted as unstable.

Went to therapy for two years bc he told me I was “unstable” and needed to be better for us. Therapist told me I was in an abusive relationship. I was constantly asking why I couldn’t be less crazy, less intense and I felt guilty for everything that happened. I justified his behavior bc he had a hard childhood and I felt very protective of him bc he was a year younger than me. I even was SAd by him but didn’t know bc he made me believe that’s what couples do (he was my very first bf). I still blame myself so much, I know I did things that hurt him but mostly they were reactions to the dynamic.

Also it's almost always who's the loudest and first to start the narrative of the other being bad is the narcissist. usually the narcassist will be mad and victim is sad. you're pretty spot on

I think that’s true until the victim starts to truly heal and then they shift to just talking about the perp. The next stage is their accountability. So it’s self blame, then shift of blame and then their own role. The first being the longest stage.
