Honestly, tragic endings are necessary when they're logically and understandable needed. This anime shouldn't have had a happy/open ending for Yosuke, because for him, life without Seiroku isn't life.

this anime shows the process of grief over the same man from different characters..... and it shows that even the one most twisted by it, who became the most crazed & insane by that grief was in the end rescued again & again by those around him from letting him die from that grief. May we all learn how to keep moving forward, keep living in healthy ways when the time comes when we lose those we love...
