My house burned down last year. My kids got out (thanks to my husband) but we lost our cats. I replay that night over in my head constantly trying to figure out what we could’ve done differently.

My son died form brain cancer at 9. I couldn't have done a damn thing medically that I didn't do and I still think I could've done better, even though I know hindsight gives us a perspective we couldn't have had at the time. I DID do the best I could but I still would change some things. I still regret things.

My kids have only been through relatively minor traumas and I still lie awake some nights and think of what I could’ve done differently to spare them from it.

Girl, I can still see my cousins red sneakers floating in our pool one 4th of July night. I remember trying to yell through the window to all the adults who were sitting at our kitchen table. I remember seeing all the police and ambulance lights through the breezeway doors from our driveway to the pool steps in the backyard. I think it may have been the summer we were 2, 3 max. We’re both 51 this fall. I believe my uncle even spoke about it in his speech at my cousins wedding, because my dad pulled him out of the pool and must have done rescue breathing before EMS got there. I don’t know the specifics of that night, or the speech. I had a newborn at the time of the wedding, plus it was out of state. We didn’t go, but I wish I did because I probably would have gotten the whole story! Unfortunately there is no one left to ask. Hold up. Did I do more as a toddler than PC did as a full grown adult????? 👀

All his children are dead, it's wild how he doesn't feel like he could've done more. AND the fact that another woman would give him more children. YIKES!
Happy your baby was okay!

I feel guilt 15 years later over something that happened to my child also. I would do anything to change it.

I’m so happy he made it out ok. I have a friend whose son drowned and got brought back. My twins attend therapy with him. He’s had the hugest battle to regain things he lost and I pray one day he is restored!

I feel this way for something as small as my child getting a cavity….i should have checked more after he brushed, I should have brushed for him, etc. etc. As parents it’s not normal not to ask yourself what you could have done differently to protect your child. I’ll never understand.

I think about how I could have done better for my children who have always been with me. I think about what I could have done and said better for my friends and family I've lost, all the time. I'm glad yours ended up ok! ❤️

I second guess my decisions and feel guilty as a mother for the most benign things all the time, things that will have no real-life consequences at all really. The lack of introspection is astounding. Even if he had absolutely zero to do with the act itself, I can’t wrap my head around him being able to continue on without ever thinking “what if”

so many things would change if we knew better or had a different mindset. That is just the way we are as parents...I feel his second wife may be running the show now.

I still beat myself up over fights that I had with my teenage girls, where I could’ve done better. I have apologized to them in these later years and they say, “it’s OK Mom“. I can’t imagine if I had been in a situation where my children passed away and I didn’t wonder if I could’ve done something different. That guy is something else.

You need to give yourself peace.
And I couldn't agree with you more. Very very bizarre.

Not knowing what he was doing between 5:15 and 5:32 stood out to me. Because if it was me I’d be thinking of EVERYTHING I did during the time my children were being killed, where if I didn’t maybe they’d still be here. But nope… he can’t remember. It would keep me awake for months weeping about why I “sent emails” or scrolled on TT instead of going straight to cvs and 3V then home. But again.. crickets from him

Mine are just over 1 and 4.5. Every night I put them to bed and think okay tomorrow I’ll be more patient or more fun to play with or make more interesting meals! Nothing traumatic and I still want to do better every day. I can’t imagine 💕
